The Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks men's soccer team has picked up a top student-athlete based in B.C., Lazlo Lorenzo.
Lorenzo comes to Lethbridge from Nelson, B.C. where he graduated from L.V. Rogers Secondary School. He is also a recipient of the B.C. School Sports 2025 Inaugural Molten Scholarship. Lorenzo has enrolled in the polytechnic's General Arts and Science program.
"I had a chance to visit the school prior to signing; one of my fellow teammates gave me a tour of the campus," says Lorenzo. "I knew a few boys that have played, and they all said they had a great time, and just the soccer was good. It was competitive, and all the components outside of soccer were really fun."
Kodiaks Head Coach Mike Racz first saw Lorenzo playing at a tournament in Kamloops, B.C. and got the ball rolling for his recruitment.
"Lazlo is a product of the strong soccer system in the Kootenay region, and he comes in with a solid foundation," says Racz. "With the added intensity and structure of the Kodiaks program, I see him developing even further. His presence on the field already stands out, and our environment will help him refine his leadership qualities and grow in his overall game."
Racz says Lorenzo has a tremendous ability with the ball at his feet, showing confidence and composure in possession and isn't afraid to stick a strong tackle and do the defensive work that every team needs. He also says Lorenzo brings balance to his game, combining skill with toughness, and leads by example with the way he plays.
"I'm looking forward to just building relationships with my teammates on and off the pitch," says Lorenzo. "I think with a little bit more time, we'll really mould together as a team, and I think we can do something special."
Lorenzo says some of his favourite soccer memories are with his club team, the Nelson Selects of the Nelson Soccer Association. "This last rep season or youth season, we won two tournaments in Kelowna and in Kamloops and those were both really fun; we played really well." He also gives a special shout out to his friend and former teammate Gael Arteaga Radonich.
The Kodiaks soccer teams start their season at home this weekend, taking on Olds College tomorrow and facing off against Red Deer Polytechnic on Sunday.
