Kodiaks men’s basketball welcomes Raymond standout
The Kodiaks men’s basketball team has added a proven scorer with the commitment of Aiden Arcus for the upcoming season.
The Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks men’s basketball team has added a proven scorer and Raymond talent with the commitment of Aiden Arcus for the upcoming season.
A graduate of Raymond High School, Arcus joins the Kodiaks after a decorated high school career. He also competed with the Raytown Basketball Club throughout his development. Arcus will begin studies in the General Arts and Science – Kinesiology Pathway program this fall.
For Arcus, the decision to join the Kodiaks was influenced by the opportunity to continue playing in southern Alberta while staying close to family and friends.
“I love playing basketball in southern Alberta,” says Arcus. “Being close to family and friends was a big factor, and I really liked the environment around the program.”
Arcus first connected with the Kodiaks after head coach Ryan Heggie reached out during his high school years. The two remained in contact throughout the recruiting process, and Arcus attended several Kodiaks team runs before committing.
“Aiden can score the ball from behind the arc and in transition,” says Heggie. “We want to improve from three-point territory, and Aiden is going to help with that.”
Arcus enjoyed a successful senior season as a shooting guard in 2024 with the Raymond High School Comets, earning first-team all-star honours in the Southern Alberta Zone and being named the most valuable player at the Bedford Road Invitational Tournament.
Heggie says Arcus' competitiveness and work ethic make him an excellent fit within the Kodiaks program.
“His compete level is outstanding,” says Heggie. “He has a never-quit attitude and is a true gym rat. Those are qualities that give players an opportunity to be successful at the post-secondary level.”
Having watched Arcus compete at Raymond High School and participate in numerous Kodiaks runs, Heggie says the coaching staff has enjoyed seeing his development firsthand.
“Some of the performances he put on at Raymond were special,” says Heggie. “Because he's been to so many of our runs, we've been able to watch him grow as a player over the last few years.”
Arcus says he is looking forward to competing in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference and helping the Kodiaks pursue success.
“I want to bring intensity on both sides of the floor,” he says. “Getting stops and hitting shots. I'm looking forward to winning and growing as a team and as a person.”
Heggie says he expects Arcus to compete hard every day and continue developing through the opportunities available within the Kodiaks program.
Arcus thanks his parents, family and coaches for the sacrifices and support they provided throughout his basketball journey.
