Weekend Preview: Kodiaks court sports battle SAIT Trojans while cross-country heads to nationals in P.E.I.
It’s a busy weekend for the Kodiaks, with court sports in a home-and-home series and cross-country competing at nationals.
The Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks court sports continue their early-season schedule with a home-and-home series against the SAIT Trojans this weekend.
The basketball teams will host SAIT on Friday night in the Val Matteotti Gymnasium before heading to Calgary for Saturday’s rematch.
The volleyball teams will take the opposite route, opening on the road Friday and returning home Saturday to close out the weekend.
Meanwhile, the Kodiaks cross-country teams will represent Lethbridge on the national stage at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association championships Saturday in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island.

The Kodiaks women’s volleyball team sits seventh in the ACAC South Division with a 1–3 record, while the Trojans enter the weekend third at 3–1.
Robyn Austin (second year, Business Administration, Lethbridge) continues to lead the Kodiaks offence, ranking among the conference leaders in kills and hitting percentage. Olivia Wideman (first year, Interior Design Technology, Calgary) has been a consistent presence in the middle, and setter Reese Hanusich (fourth year, General Arts and Science, Red Deer) provides steady direction to a young and developing lineup.
The Kodiaks will look to build on last week’s improved offensive rhythm as they return home Saturday to challenge the Trojans in front of their home fans.

The Kodiaks men’s volleyball team remains undefeated at 3–0, ranking third in the ACAC South Division and fifth nationally in the CCAA, while SAIT sits fifth in the South at 2–1.
Cameron Marshall (third year, Criminal Justice – Policing, Adelaide, South Australia) has been nearly unstoppable at the net, ranking among ACAC leaders in hitting efficiency. Corny Bergen (first year, Business Administration, Picture Butte) provides explosive scoring from the outside, and setter Ben St. Pierre (fifth year, Open Studies, Red Deer) continues to run a balanced, high-tempo offence.
With momentum on their side, the Kodiaks will look to extend their perfect start and solidify their national standing.

Summer Long (first year, General Arts and Science, Raymond) continues to lead the Kodiaks in scoring and minutes played. Gaby Power (fourth year, Early Childhood Education, Calgary) brings veteran experience and outside shooting, and Chase Wells-Creighton (second year, Exercise Science, Standoff) has been a consistent force on the boards.
The Kodiaks will look to use their home court energy Friday to earn their second win of the season before heading to Calgary for the rematch.

Cole Lake (fifth year, Business Administration, Eagle, Idaho) continues to lead with composure and playmaking, Marley Kenion (first year, Child and Youth Care, Coventry, England) provides athleticism and scoring inside and Nathaniel Hosannah (second year, Business Administration, Tacoma, Wash.) remains a reliable two-way contributor.
With both teams undefeated, fans can expect an intense weekend series as the Kodiaks aim to defend their home court and remain atop the standings.

The Kodiaks men’s and women’s cross-country teams are competing at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association national championships this weekend in Charlottetown, P.E.I., hosted by Holland College.
The Kodiaks men’s team enters nationals after finishing second at the ACAC Championships, led by Ethan Grasmeyer (third year, Conservation Enforcement – Bachelor of Applied Science, Smithers, B.C.) and Conner Van Den Hoek (third year, Business Administration – Management, Fort Macleod), both named ACAC All-Conference runners.
The women’s team captured bronze at provincials, led by Katrina Michel (third year, Bachelor of Nursing, Okotoks) and Kate Block (third year, Business Administration – Management, Waldheim, Sask.), both of whom recorded top-15 finishes.
