Nowicki and Low named Kodiaks AOTW

Sept. 18, 2018 - After a busy weekend of road action for both Kodiaks XC and soccer programs, a sophomore running star and a defensive pillar on the pitch have been named our athletes of the week.

Sophia Nowicki, WXC

Sophia Nowicki earns the female AOTW honours after leading her team to a first place performance in their first ACAC Running Room Grand Prix race on Saturday. Nowicki was the top finishing female at the event after running the 6km circuit in 22:33, almost a minute ahead of her nearest competitor.

The second year Kodiaks' runner is gearing up for another podium push at both the ACAC and CCAA levels this season, after finishing her rookie year with ACAC and CCAA bronze medals.

David Low, MSOC

Meanwhile, Kodiaks men's soccer newcomer David Low has earned male AOTW honours after a terrific defensive performance in the Kodiaks 1-1 draw at Medicine Hat on Sunday.

Hailing from Newcastle upon Tyne, England, Low was instrumental in the middle of the Kodiaks defence. He had numerous clearances and interceptions against the rival Rattlers, keeping MHC at bay and limiting them to only one clear cut chance.

The week ahead

The Kodiaks XC team will get a chance to run on home turf this weekend as they host the ACAC Running Room Grand Prix #3 on Saturday. The event is part of the "Run for the Pumpkin" and will see the Kodiaks host runners from SAIT and St. Mary's University.

Meanwhile, the Kodiaks soccer teams head north for a crucial two-game roadtrip to Lakeland College and Red Deeer College. Men's volleyball also hits the court for the first time this season, playing an exhibition tournament in Edmonton.
