Nowicki and Knight named Moxie's Italian Table Athletes of the Month

Nov. 13, 2019 - October was a month filled with championship success for the Kodiaks, and it's time to honour two athletes who rose to the occasion when the lights got the brightest.

Sophia Nowicki (WXC) and Ben Knight (MSOC) were key parts of ACAC championship titles for their respectve teams, and have been named our Kodiaks Moxie's / Italian Table Athletes of the Month for October.

Congrats Ben and Sophia! Each will receive a gift card to either Moxie's Lethbridge or Italian Table.

Ben Knight (MSOC)

As the calendar turned to October, Knight (third year, General Studies) once again established himself as one of the most dominant midfielders in the ACAC. The shifty midfielder from Manchester helped his team dictate the pace of games, and was especially deadly in sparking the Kodiaks offence off set pieces.

His ability to control games was recognized by his peers, as the veteran player was named the ACAC player of the year for his regular season efforts. He then helped lead his team to the first ACAC championship in team history, earning the Kodiaks a berth at the CCAA national tournament in Oshawa.

At that tournament, Knight earned an assist on the Kodiaks first ever goal at a CCAA national championship.

Sophia Nowicki (WXC)

Nowicki (third year, BN) continued her domination of the ACAC circuit all throughout the month of October.

Her impressive season was one for the record books. On an individual level she was unstoppable, earning a win in every ACAC competition she competed in, culminating in capturing the individual ACAC championship on Oct. 26 in Calgary. She also helped lead her team’s title defence, as the Kodiaks captured the ACAC gold medal for the second year in a row.

Her success translated on the national stage, as she earned an individual bronze medal and led her team to a team gold medal at CCAA nationals in Grande Prairie.
