Bukuru and Salmon named Mucho Burrito AOTW

Sept. 24, 2019 - One did it with offence. The other with a stellar defensive performance.

The Kodiaks have named Jimmy Bukuru and Jasmin Salmon their Mucho Burrito Athletes of the Week after another successful weekend for the Kodiaks soccer programs.

Jimmy Bukuru - MSOC

Bukuru (third year, General Studies) continued his torrid offensive pace over the weekend, scoring four goals to help his team claim two cruical wins.

Although things were tense entering the 69th minute of a scoreless game against Olds on Saturday, Bukuru put the Kodiaks on his back and led them to victory. He scored twice in the span of two minutes and then added another goal with a beautiful left-footed strike to record a natural hat-trick and lead the Kodiaks to a 3-0 victory.

He then came through again on Sunday, scoring the game winner to help the Kodiaks knock off the previously undefeated SAIT Trojans.

Bukuru is now tied for the ACAC conference lead in goals with eight in just five games. With a 4-1 record, the Kodiaks are now tied with the Trojans for first place in the ACAC south and have entered  the CCAA national rankings for the first time this season.

Jasmin Salmon - WSOC

Salmon (third year, Business Admin - Management) was an absolute rock in the central defence this weekend for the nationally ranked Kodiaks.

She was named player of the game on Saturday after a terrific performance in which she completely shut down one of the best strikers in the league. This allowed her Kodiaks teammates to fill the back of the net as they came away with a huge 4-0 win at nationally ranked Olds, who were previously undefeated.

Despite dropping a 2-0 decision on Sunday to SAIT, the Kodiaks are now 4-1 and will prepare for a big tilt against their Highway 3 rival Medicine Hat on the road Saturday, before returning home on Sunday to face the Ambrose Lions.
