Wikenheiser, Nowicki and Women's XC named Mucho Burrito AOTW

Nov. 14, 2018 - The honours continue to roll in for Sophia Nowicki and the Kodiaks women's cross country team after a memorable weekend at CCAA Nationals, while Zach Wikenhesier continues to help lead the undefeated Kodiaks men's volleyball team to a historic start. Here are this week's Mucho Burrito Athletes of the Week!

Sophia Nowicki - WXC

What more is there to say about the Kodiaks sophomore phenom. She completed an undefeated season after being crowned the CCAA women's cross country champion in Toronto on Saturday, winning the race by four seconds over the second place finisher. Nowicki tore up the competition all season, and helped lead her Kodiaks to a team silver medal performance. It's the fourth time this season Nowicki has won the Mucho Burrito Athlete of the Week award.

Women's XC

Not to be forgotten, the Kodiaks entire female cross country team also takes home the Mucho Burrito Athlete of the Week award after a silver medal performance at Nationals. The team consisting of Nowicki, Janelle Graham, Emily Spencer, Salma Moreira, Brooklyn Vogel, Vildana Rekic and Rebecca Sweeney finished just behind Fanshawe College after a gutsy performance through a challenging 6 km circuit featuring plenty of mud and snow.

Zach Wikenheiser - MVB

On the men's side, Zach Wikenheiser picks up the award after leading his team to a sweep of the rival Medicine Hat Rattlers. After picking up 18 assists on Thursday night in a straight sets sweep of the Rattlers, Wikenheiser's sound decisions and precision setting led to 52 assists in a 3-1 win on Saturday. Showing his well rounded play, he also added seven digs in that game.

The Kodiaks have moved up to third in the nation in the latest CCAA national rankings and will have a bye week this weekend, before getting set to host Olds College during Alumni Weekend on Nov. 23-24.
