May 22, 2019 – Lethbridge College Kodiaks women’s volleyball head coach Anna Schwark has tapped into Saskatchewan to bolster her 2019-20 recruiting class.
Schwark is excited to announce the commitment of Kennedy Froehlich, a Regina native who will join the Kodiaks next fall after graduating from Campbell Collegiate High School.
Froehlich has been on Schwark’s radar since making a favorable impression at a Kodiaks development camp two years ago.
“Her parents drove her to the camp all the way from Swift Current, where they lived at the time,” remembers Schwark. “She was quiet and shy initially, but as soon as she stepped on the court she worked extremely hard. Even though she was at a summer camp, she was super competitive and ready to learn from all of the coaches. Luckily from there we kept in contact and it has been so awesome to watch Kennedy grow and develop the last few years.”
Froehlich has been an instrumental part of championship teams throughout her high school career, including being part of 5A high school provincial championship squads in 2016 and 2018. She is currently finishing her club career with Esterhazy Heat.
Schwark knew Froehlich would thrive at Lethbridge College based on the instant chemistry she had with her future Kodiaks teammates.
“I knew she would be a great fit because the girls loved her immediately,” says Schwark. “Kennedy’s competitive nature will push the rest of us to always be improving. It reminds us to take advantage of every single opportunity to grow as volleyball players and women because that is exactly what Kennedy does.”
For Froehlich, her initial visit to the college left a lasting impression that made the Kodiaks her choice destination to play post-secondary volleyball.
“I have wanted to be a Kodiak since my first visit there the summer of 2017,” says Froehlich. “I was impressed with the level of play, the atmosphere and coaching philosophy. I am looking forward to taking my game to the next level and helping the Kodiaks achieve success on and off the court.”
Touring the campus and learning about Lethbridge College’s academic programs cemented the decision for Froehlich to come west.
“When I toured the college, I knew that was where I wanted to further my education.”
Froehlich will be taking the Health Care Aide program in the fall and plans to take the LPN course upon completion. She will join her teammates for training camp in September, with ACAC regular season play beginning in October.
