WVB | Kodiaks introduce Dixon

Aug. 15, 2019 – With a new ACAC season on the horizon, Lethbridge College Kodiaks women’s volleyball head coach Anna Schwark is putting the finishing touches on her 2019-20 roster.

On Thursday, Schwark proudly introduced Johanna Dixon as the newest addition to her lineup.

Dixon is a setter who joins the Kodiaks from her hometown of Calgary, where she recently graduated from Centennial High School.

Schwark knew she had a terrific prospect from the moment Dixon first visited the Lethbridge College campus last season.

“Early last season Johanna came for a campus visit and I immediately knew she was a mature girl who could be a fantastic asset to our team,” says Schwark. “Later in the season we had her back to join us in the gym and the entire team’s interactions with her solidified my first impressions. Jo works extremely hard running the floor as a setter and she plays some of the better backrow defense I have seen from that position in a while.”

After competing in the Div. 1 level for six years, Dixon finished her club career with the 403 Selects Volleyball Club. As a setter and team captain, Jo earned a Division 2 Gold medal in Premier 2 and finished eleventh overall in Division 1 at provincials. Her consistency and leadership earned her the 403 Selects Volleyball Club MVP award last season, an award which she had previously won in her U16 club year as well.

Schwark says Dixon brings a complete package to the team, both on-and-off the court.

“The rest of the team loves the attitude Jo brings to the floor,” says Schwark. “She’s a vocal teammate, she’s positive and she’s very competitive in practice and in games. I know Jo values her academics as well as sport. I am confident she will succeed in the classroom and on the court.”

When asked about what she’s looking forward to most, Dixon says she’s just excited to get to know her teammates and get the year started.

“I am very excited to be a part of the Kodiak family. From meeting new people, to working hard on and off the court, through my studies, the athletes and making memories.”

Dixon is enrolled in General Studies at LC and plans on pursuing a degree in Education.

The Kodiaks will open training camp in September and will kick off their new season on Oct.18 at home against SAIT.
