May 29, 2019 – The basketball hotbed of Magrath will be well represented on next season’s Lethbridge College Kodiaks women’s basketball roster.
Head coach Deanna Simpson is excited to introduce a pair of Magrath natives as the latest additions to her 2019-20 recruiting class, as Montana Berezay and Jenna Taylor have signed letters of commitment to play for the Kodiaks in the fall.
The pair will join fellow Magrath High School alum Skyler Riggin on next season’s roster, meaning the Kodiaks will have three representatives from the town with a population of just over 2,300.
Berezay is a dynamic offensive threat who Simpson describes as “one of the best three-point shooters I have ever seen”
“Montana is truly a threat anywhere on the three-point line and already has a great range that she continues to improve on,” says Simpson. “She also has good basketball knowledge and understanding of the intricacies of the game. I am looking forward to adding her to our arsenal of shooters and her ability to create match-up problems for other teams.”
“She has a knack for adapting to what you ask her to do as a player.”
In Taylor, the Kodiaks are getting another threat from the post position, and one Simpson believes can make an immediate impact.
“Jenna is another graduate from Magrath High School and is a true post player,” describes Simpson. “She has the length and the grit to play at our level and I believe we will see an impact from her early on.”
Simpson notes that Taylor has many offensive weapons that make her dangerous near the basket.
“Jenna is fantastic in the key and is also a great passer for a post player. She really understands what her role is and we are looking forward to adding her to our team in that position. She is a great rebounder and a gritty defender.”
Looking forward to 2019-20
The Kodiaks will begin training camp in September with ACAC conference play commencing in mid-October.
