MVB | Kodiaks sweep Briercrest

Nov. 18, 2019 – The Lethbridge College Kodiaks men’s volleyball team continued their roll on the weekend, emerging from Saskatchewan with two huge road victories over Briercrest.

Lethbridge claimed both contests three sets to one and have now won seven consecutive matches. The Kodiaks sit second in the ACAC south division with a 7-1 record, two points back of first place SAIT. The Kodiaks hold a game in hand on the Trojans.

Carter Hansen was unstoppable all weekend, striking for 44 kills between the two games, which accounted for over 45% of all Kodiaks kills.

Lethbridge will now face their biggest test of the season next weekend when they welcome rival Red Deer College to the Val Matteotti Gymnasium. The teams will square off at 8 p.m. Friday before a rematch at 3 p.m. on Saturday.

The games will be part of the Kodiaks Alumni/Hall of Fame weekend, which will feature the induction of the second class of the Kodiaks Hall of Fame. There will also be a special social room for all Kodiaks alumni on Friday night and during Saturday night’s basketball games. Admission for the games is by donation benefitting student-athlete scholarships.

CARONPORT, SK- The Clippers men's volleyball team took on the Lethbridge College Kodiaks in on Friday evening, the outcome of the game was a Kodiaks win in four sets.

Starting the first set was a tight back and forth game between the two teams. But near mid-set Lethbridge pulled ahead and took the set 25-18.

In the second set, Briercrest pushed to comeback to win the next set. The Kodiaks stayed neck and neck with the Clippers and halfway into the second set the score was 16-16. Into the end of the set, the score was 25-25. But the Clippers stole the set winning 27-25, #11 Jadon Ward for Briercrest finished up the set with a fantastic kill.

In what would be a turnaround set for the Kodiaks, they came out and picked up synergy. And they accomplished this in the set, lugging ahead of the Clippers finishing the set 23-25 in a huge team effort.

In the fourth set, both teams came out strong. It was back and forth action all the way coming down to who would make more errors. The score was tied 19-19 and the Kodiaks eventually pulled ahead winning the set and also the match. Making for a Kodiaks victory 22-25. The final scores were 18-25 / 27-25 / 23-25 and 22-25.

Player of the game for the Clippers was #11 Karym Coleman with an ace, 20 kills, 1 block and 6 digs. For the Kodiaks, #18 Carter Hansen was player of the game with 20 kills, 3 blocks and 4 digs.

CARONPORT, SK- The Clippers and the Kodiaks played each other once again. The outcome was a Kodiaks win in four sets.

Starting the first set was a tough battle between the two teams. Halfway into the set Kodiaks were up 12-15. Lethbridge continued to push ahead and eventually took the set with a 18-25 finish.

In the second set, Briercrest tried to make a comeback but couldn't quite get there. The Kodiaks stole the second set 19-25 gaining lots of momentum.

In what would be a turnaround set for Briercrest, the Clippers came out and picked up energy. And they achieved this in the set, pulling ahead of the Kodiaks midway in making it 15-12. Briercrest carried this lead finishing the set 25-20 in a huge team effort.

In the fourth set Briercrest came in leading 16-13 midway through. It was back and forth action all the way coming down to who would make more errors. The score was tied 19-24 for the Kodiaks but Briercrest brought the game back tying the score 25-25 in a huge team effort by the Clippers. But Lethbridge broke Briercrest's momentum and finished up the set 28-30 in a thriller of a game. The final scores were 18-25 / 19-25 / 25-20 and 28-30.

Player of the game for the Clippers was #1 Jeremy Martens with 22 assists and 4 digs. And for the Kodiaks #4 Zach Wikenheiser was player of the game with 36 assists, 2 aces and 9 digs.
