Ready for tip-off: Kodiaks unveil 2019-20 basketball schedule

July 22, 2019 – The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference has officially unveiled its 2019-20 basketball schedule, with both Kodiaks men’s and women’s teams set to tip-off the new season on Oct. 19.

The 21-game regular season includes 11 home games for the Kodiaks, who face all seven of their south division foes three times each.

After returning to the postseason last season, the Kodiaks women’s team will look to build off their encouraging third-place finish in the ACAC south division. With a core that now has playoff experience, the Kodiaks will be eager to challenge rivals like the defending national champion Olds College Broncos for top spot in the south.

On the other hand, the Kodiaks men’s team will be hungry for a rebound season after a rare playoff miss. The team tied for fourth place in the ACAC south division last season with a 12-9 record but were on the wrong end of a playoff tiebreaker with the Ambrose Lions, missing the playoffs for the first time since 1994-95.

Breaking down the schedule

The unbalanced schedule in the south division will see Lethbridge host Ambrose, St. Mary’s, Red Deer and Olds for a pair of games each, while SAIT, Medicine Hat and Briercrest will visit the Val Matteotti Gym just once.

The Kodiaks will also play a trio of Thursday night feature games, including a Nov. 28 home game against the rival SAIT Trojans.

October starts slow with just three games while November will be the Kodiaks busiest month with seven matches. The Kodiaks kick off 2020 with six games in January and finish up with five in February.

Just three matchups will feature afternoon start times, with all others beginning at 6/8 p.m.

The top four teams in the south division will move on to play in the ACAC championships from Mar. 4-7. The women’s draw is hosted by Medicine Hat, while Augustana (Camrose) will host the men’s tournament.

Matchups to circle
