The Kodiaks basketball teams play a home-and-home series with St. Mary’s this weekend, beginning Friday in Calgary, before returning to the Val Matteotti Gymnasium on Saturday. Both Kodiaks teams are ranked 14th in the national CCAA rankings.
The Kodiaks men swept Medicine Hat last weekend to improve to 7-3, and move up to second place in the ACAC south division. St. Mary’s is in sixth place at 2-8 and lost 84-65 to the Kodiaks in the first half.
Orin Porter Jr. (third year, Academic Upgrading, Incline Village, Nev.) is fourth in the ACAC in both scoring (20 points per game) and shooting percentage (57.2 per cent), while Lincoln Anderson (second year, General Studies, Cardston) is second in rebounding (10.6 rebounds per game).
The women’s team lost two games to nationally fourth-ranked Medicine Hat last weekend, but hung tough with the Rattlers, including a double overtime thriller on Saturday. The Kodiaks and Lightning enter the weekend with identical 6-4 rankings and are tied for third in the ACAC south division. The Kodiaks won 67-61 in a first semester meeting between the clubs.
Jocelyn Neilson (first year, General Studies, Lethbridge) is fourth in the ACAC in shooting percentage (51.8 per cent), while Juhee Anderson (fourth year, Exercise Science, Cardston) leads the Kodiaks in scoring, averaging 14.1 points per game.
The women’s games start at 6 p.m., with the men’s games at 8 p.m. both nights. Saturday’s games are in the Val Matteotti Gymnasium. Admission is free to Lethbridge College students with their student ID, $3 for college employees, $5 for seniors, youth and alumni, and $8 for the public. Saturday’s games begin at the same times in Calgary and can be streamed on ACAC-TV.
